THE SOCIAL STATUS OF WOMEN IN THE AMERICAN SOCIETY: ITS PAST AND PRESENT

Аннотация. В статье анализируется положение женщин в американском обществе в исторической ретроспективе. Во второй половине XX - нач. XXI вв. произошло радикальное изменение обще­ственного статуса женщины. В результате современные американки занимают позиции, принципи­ально недоступные им еще полвека назад в ключевых сферах: образование, работа, бизнес, политика. Современная американка, в отличие от женщин предшествующих поколений, ставит перед собой следующие приоритеты: образование, карьера, профессиональная самореализация. Однако проблема гендерного неравенства еще далека от разрешения в США. В вопросах оплаты труда и продвижения по служебной лестнице гендерный разрыв пока не преодолен.

Summary. The paper deals with the status of women in the American society in historical retrospective. In the second half of the XX- early XXI centuries the social status of women changed dramatically. As a result, now contemporary American women hold positions which were completely out of reach half a century ago in major areas such as education, employment, business and politics. Unlike past generations, a contempo­rary American woman sets for herself the following priorities: higher education, successful career, job satis­faction. Nevertheless, the problem of gender inequality in the USA is far from being solved. In terms of sala­ry and career ladder promotion, the gender gap has not been closed yet.
