Аннотация. Рассматриваются марксистская и веберовская концепции отчуждения применительно к США XIX в. Если в марксистской концепции постулируется постоянный рост отчуждения в капита­листическом обществе, то у М. Вебера отчуждение постепенно ослабевает вместе с ростом квалифи­кации работников. Важнейшим элементом формирования нового отношения к труду М. Вебер считал протестантскую трудовую этику, основанную на идее профессии-призвания. В случае с США цен­тральной идеей новой трудовой этики становится не идея профессии-призвания, а идея использова­ния благоприятных возможностей, которые возникают благодаря освоению новых земель и измене­ниям в профессиональной и образовательной сферах. Но проблема отчуждения остается, его основой на новом этапе становится консьюмеризм. Само ослабление отчуждения в США становится важным фактором исторического прогресса. Это показывает, что отчуждение является сложным историче­ским явлением, изучение которого именно в таком качестве могло бы способствовать сближению марксизма и истории ментальностей.

Summary. The paper considers Marx's and Weber's theory of alienation with regard to USA in XIX c. If Marxism posits that in a capitalist society alienation of labour is a constantly and increasingly developing process, in Weber's view alienation gradually fades away as the skill level and qualification of labour im­prove. For Weber, the crucial element of a new attitude to labour was the Protestant work ethics based on the idea of occupation-vocation/calling. In case of USA, the central idea of the new work ethics was not the occupation-vocation but that of exploiting favourable opportunities arising from the development of new territories and changes in the domains of education and job. However, the problem of labour alienation re­mains, at this stage based upon consumerism. The very weakening of alienation processes in the USA has become an important factor for the historic progress. This demonstrates to us that alienation is a complicated historical phenomenon that, if studied as such, could be conductive to the drawing together of Marxism and the history of mentalities.
