Аннотация. В статье приведено описание особенностей билингвальной ситуации в г. Эль Пасо, штат Техас, США.
Представлены результаты анкетирования мексиканских билингвов,
студентов Техасского университета в г. Эль Пасо, владеющих английским языком
как вторым на среднем, среднем продвинутом и продвинутом уровнях. Дан анализ
социолингвистических характеристик респондентов, таких, как пол, возраст,
продолжительность проживания на территории США и время начала изучения
английского языка.
Summary. The
paper reports on some specific features of a bilingual situation in the town of
El Paso, Texas, USA. The results of a questionnaire survey of Mexican
bilinguals’ are discussed. The analysis of sociolin- guistic characteristics (such as gender, age, the period of
staying in the US, age when the learning of English began) of Mexican
informants with Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced levels of English
proficiency is given.
