Аннотация. В статье рассматривается проблема влияния иностранных языков на развитие культуры России. Культурологический аспект проблематики исследуется через историю методики преподавания иностранных языков в России, через установление характера перевода литературы и ее жанров, через изучение форм заимствований лексического состава иностранных языков и выявление роли всех этих процессов в повседневной жизни русского общества.

Summary. The paper deals with the problem of the role foreign languages had in the development of Russian culture. The cultural aspect of the problem is investigated: through the history of teaching methods used in foreign language education in Russia, through the type and nature of translations from foreign literature and its favourite genres, through the study of linguistic borrowings from other languages, and through the revealing of the role of all these processes in the everyday life of Russian society.
